This project was an introductory to the Rome Semester, as part of a greater initiative to revitalize the Aurelian Wall circling the city.
My proposition was to ‘patch’ the gaps in the wall with inhabitable spaces, safe from the public, but at the same time not to diminish the public space either. The wall would become a long circular footpath filled with programs and activities. From time to time, a side staircase would lead to a private residence above.
The residence is using the predominant material on the site, existing brick, to create the idea of shelter in a cave. The monolithic nature of the wall is being questioned by the void inside it.
